Ireland to Canada
Moving Ireland to Canada
Canada has strict laws about bringing your personal belongings into the country, and it is important that you fully understand these before moving there from Ireland. JIT Removals can provide expert advice on the procedure for dealing with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA).
This country has long been a welcoming new home for Irish immigrants and it was recently ranked number one in the world for ‘Quality of Life’, due to its outstanding economy and health care system. However, the first step in planning a move there is to understand things like basic residency requirements, the typical Canadian duty on household goods, and any prohibitions and restrictions. Our international move experts will have many of the answers you need.
Once you submit a request for a quote, we will contact you to discuss your specific needs. We provide door-to-door removals to places like Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg and many others across this massive and beautiful country.
Here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about moves to Canada:
What happens when I choose JIT Removals?
If you are happy with your quote and wish to move forward, we will set up a file containing all the details of your move to Canada. JIT Removals will help you ensure that all of your customs documents are in order to avoid any delays or complications.
Please note that while JIT Removals will do everything possible to facilitate your move, Canadian law stipulates that you are the only person who can clear your own shipment there. A Custom’s Clearance Agent cannot do this on your behalf. You will need to attend a meeting with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) in order to do so.
If you are a new immigrant to Canada, you are allowed to import your household goods without duty being charged, provided the goods are owned and were previously used by you in Ireland.

Sea or Air Freight?
Depending on the type of goods you wish to ship, we offer both sea freight and air freight service. Sea freight is cheaper and appropriate for those without rigid time constraints, and provides both full and shared container load services. Air freight can arrive in Canada in less than one week, while sea freight can take between four to ten weeks, depending on the method of shipment you use. There are several ways to approach air freight and JIT Removals can advise you on the most appropriate solutions based on your specific needs.
